Interesting. After seeing many Marmite-like 'love it or hate it' reviews of this film I can only come to the conclusion that critics are in two camps. Those that have read the book/s and those that haven't. I fall into first category and as such totally hated the film. It lacks the intriguing depth of the book 'The Northern Lights' and I felt the film version of the story was disjointed and bland. The best bit for me was when it ended and I could leave the cinema.

(I wouldn't mind spanking Nicole Kidman's monkey though)
